Discouraging people from taking risks:
Don’t change horses in the middle of the stream.
Don’t make waves.
Don’t rock the boat.
You’re on thin ice.
Don’t get bogged down.
You’re getting into muddy water.
I’m up a creek without a paddle.
Encouraging people to take risks:
Go on --- get your feet wet.
Take the plunge.
When people are in trouble:
He’s gone off the deep end.
He’s a fish out of water.
I’m in hot water now!
She’s in over her head.
Oh, boy – I’m in too deep to quit.
He’s (all) at sea.
Buzz with the buddy.
When there is no point in worrying:
That’s water under the bridge.
= it’s gone and past
That’s all water over the dam. /
